This will not be so much of an install/mod page in that I am not giving step by step instructions, but it will serve to give anyone looking at a remote mount radar/laser detector system some ideas of where to mount their sensors and display unit.

I had this issue with the placement of my hardwired radar detector (top of dash, driver side corner of the window), that being it was easy to see. You generally do not get out of a ticket no matter how pleasant you are when an officer sees a radar detector. I discovered that BEL, the maker of my standard radar/laser detector, also manufactures a radar/laser detector that is almost invisible- the 975R STi. It offers 360 degree radar (all bands) and laser detection, plus Safety Warning System alerts. The only item mounted inside the cabin of the car is the display unit, pictured above. All audio and visual alerts (seperate for each radar band, laser, and SWS) come from this unit. It is very well hidden in the area below the ashtray but still visible and certainly audible to the driver.

As for the sensors, there is a forward facing radar antenna placed usually behind the grill. I did not have enough room behind my grill to mount the sensor, so I mounted it next to the front license plate. Without the arrow, you would never notice it. Do not underestimate the detection power of this antenna- it is exponentially more sensitive than an in-car detector because it is outside of the "cage" of the body of the car and away from electronics. It will continue to detect the leakage from a forward facing radar gun in a police car several dozens of yards after the cruiser has already passed in the opposite direction of travel- it is alarming how large the detection range is and how sensitive the antenna is.

For laser detection, the system comes with one laser sensor, which I have attached to the back of the rear view mirror. Both the mirror and the laser detector body are black, and if asked you could get away with saying it is for the alarm system. An additional (optional) sensor hides nicely in the rear window on the dark fabric of the rear parcel shelf.
