This page details how to remove the daytime running light feature from the US Specification 2002 Impreza. I cannot claim credit for this modification, but rather it was gleaned from the postings on the NASIOC.com forums.

To Remove the Day Time Running Light Module

1) In the engine compartment, above the airbox, there is a black box. Twist the two screws on the top of this and remove it.
2) If you look down under where this cover was, you will see a metal module, with a wire harness plugged into the bottom of it. There is a "caution high temperature" warning label on the front side of this module. That is the day time running light module.
3) There are 2 10mm bolts that secure the module to the side of the strut tower, remove them.
4) Unplug the wire from the module and secure with a zip tie for a clean look. Throw the module in the trash can and you are done.
